A Year in Action - AGM 2025
29th Sept 2025
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fearon Hall for this year’s AGM. We were honoured to be officially welcomed by the Mayor of Charnwood, who opened the meeting and showed real interest in the work we’re doing locally.
The evening brought together staff, trustees, supporters and local residents to reflect on everything we’ve achieved and the challenges we’ve faced over the past 12 months. From essential casework and mental health support to empowering local women and hosting another vibrant Mela, the work we do is always shaped by the people we serve.

Our newly published Annual Report 2024/25 offers a snapshot of that journey. Designed by our Communications Officer, Toni, it captures the energy, commitment and care behind every project. Huge thanks to the team for pulling it together and for making that work happen every day.
A highlight of the evening came from trustee Abida Akram, who shared a series of short stories drawn from lived experience. Her piece about the Mela and jalebi was especially moving, reminding us how moments of culture, family and belonging shape our collective memory.

We also heard from our NHS Talking Therapies team, who spoke powerfully about the impact of trauma, poor housing and digital exclusion on mental health, and how Equality Action’s trusted, community-based approach makes it easier for people to seek support.
We welcomed several new trustees, including Emily Keightley, Osas Adetutu, Joanne Hudson and Veronica Moore, and saw Yasmin Ali-Hind elected as our new Chair, with Geetha Bala as Vice Chair. We also gave a heartfelt thank you to Jill Vincent and Charles Dobbin, who stepped back but will continue their involvement with our work.

As always, we’re grateful to our partners, funders and local allies for standing with us through another year. Whether through referrals, donations, ideas or encouragement, you’ve helped us stay rooted, responsive and ready for what comes next.
