Improving Lives Annual Football Tournament 2019

30th Sep 2019

Equality Action’s Improving Lives Project holds annual football tournaments to bring together men from different backgrounds to participate in a friendly 7 a-side game.

Our 4th Annual Football Tournament took place on Sunday 29th September, 2019 at Loughborough College, where 6 teams participated from different ages, cultures and backgrounds. This year’s teams were Bullet, Dream Team 2019, Slumdog Ballers, LE11 All Stars, Pathetic Athletic and Fats Club.

Despite the occasional downpour all the teams entered into the spirit of the occasion and played their socks off.  As with all competitions there has to be a winner and this year the winning team was “Fats Club” with “LE11 All Stars” as the runners up.  However we believe all teams were winners and thank them for their participation.

The trophies were presented by Cllr David Snartt, Deputy Mayor of Charnwood including those for Player of the Tournament, Fahim from Slumdog Ballers, Top Scorer, Jazz from Fats Club and Golden Glove, Ajay also from Fats Club.

David Featonby, Chair of Equality Action, says that “we are pleased how over the years, this tournament has and continues to promote community cohesion by bringing young people and the wider community together.  We believe that this helps to break down barriers and is a great way to celebrate their achievements.  We are hoping to build on the success of this venture in future years”.

Our thanks to Loughborough College for the free use of their pitches and local individuals, Hiron Miah and in particular Somru Miah, who has worked hard with our project staff to bring these teams together and Mr Sayed Feroz Khadri and his team for officiating the tournament.
